Letter from Ray Crooke to Brian Johnstone, 13 Oct [1961]
From RBHARC 7/3/20 Ray Crooke Correspondence File to 1966

Yorkey's Knob
      13 October [1961]

Dear Brian

June arrived back last night having enjoyed her stay in Brisbane. The house was not in too much disorder for her.
This is just a hasty note to confirm the framingfor the gallery competition.
I will send down 2 paintings 48" X 30" at the end of next week or Monday of the following, that is at the latest they should reach you by the 25th. I will ensure that  the board is exactly 48" X 30" so that if the framer made the necessary allowance in his size there should be no
trouble in fitting them.
I take the opportunity of thanking you both for all you have done (and are doing) for us. I dont (sic) know how we could have quite managed but for your thoughtfullness (sic), especially in the sordid material sphere (where most gallery directors seem to live alone.)
To me the show seems a great success and the pattern exactly right for work ahead, as we agreed, the next show at a wider interval of time and more selective still (eventually at this pattern one would end up showing one picture!!!) but I will endeavour to keep aside or send you what I consider the choicest efforts of the year.

(2)
I concur with the selectios for the colour photos.
I had a letter from K. Bonython asking for a show next May. I think I will agree to that.
What do you think about using some of the frames from this show? The new locally made ones I think would be more suitable for transport. If you agree to this I will plan on same sizes, perhaps including those extra ones 16 X 12?
I had a quick look in at Hardy's Gallery at the Sydney show; the gallery hardly offers any competion to the Johnstone establishment and I found it very hard to see the paintings for the blinding end light from the windows.
Good news about Gleghorn's scholaship (sic).
          Must go and post this.

                             regards          Ray
