Letter from Ray Crooke to Brian Johnstone 5 Sept [1969]
From RBHARC 7/3/22 Ray Crooke Correspondence File 1968-1971

5 September [1969]
4 Union St
Mosman  2088

 Dear Brian,
A note to say that we (David Jack Johnston (?) and I) returned from the Palmer River trip - I caught a cold in Cairns and went straight through Brisbane. June and Diana arrive back tomorrow so we are tidying things up a bit.
The trip was very successful, one of the best trips I have had, as far as reference is concerned, and I am very excited now about the whole show.(though I have yet to paint it) I am going to give myself all of the first half of next year to paint this as I feel it will be a very important one for me. All sorts of things will gel.
I have managed to infect George with the Palmer trip and I have decided to bring out a little folio with the show and George will write some text, but more of this later.

2)
Some time next month I will go up to Brisbane. I want to look up some reference on the Palmer Gold field - will give you a ring well before hand.
I am off to W.A. on Thursday to do some paintings for the W.A. Government on Mt Newman. Rather stay here but it will no doubt be worth while.
This is in effect just a line to prepare you for next year. I anticipate a series of paintings somewhat unique!
Am hoping to get my attic studio built before end of year. Still waiting on the Mosman Council for permission.

love to Marjorie

Ray
